It happens all the time – you found a house you like. But, there are things standing in the way. Don’t worry. According to Angela Colley of realtor.com, there are several ways to get through the barriers.
Firstly, make sure you understand what their motivation is. You want to understand what they are focused on. Granted, many people are motivated by money.
But, other factors might be in play. The seller might want to move quickly – and for several reasons. They may have been transferred by their employer, they may have found the home of their dreams in a climate they prefer, or they may have decided to go to school and have to move to another location. All of these factors would cause a seller to want to sell their current house as quickly as possible. Knowing this will work to your advantage.
Thirdly, the seller may have an emotional attachment. If they are still emotionally attached to their house, reassuring them that you understand can help. They want to know that, if they move, the house will be in good hands. In some cases, it may be the house they grew up in. In those cases, it may be more difficult for them to leave. But, discussing why they are moving, and letting them know you appreciate what is going on will help them be more comfortable selling the house to you because they will know you know what’s going on.
