The Special Olympics will be holding local trials on Wednesday, April 6. The Area 14 Special Olympics will be held at the Joe R. Gilbert Track and Field facility on the Central campus of Southern Wesleyan University. The local event, which includes Anderson County, started 40 years ago. It will be the area’s 38th year hosting the spring games.
Events for participants include standing long jump, softball and tennis ball throw, 100-meter walk and run, 50-meter walk and run, 50- and 100-meter assisted walk and run, wheelchair races and 200-meter and 400-meter runs. Participants under eight-years-old can participate in bowling, bean bag toss, tennis ball throw and several other events.
The Special Olympics is a place for participants with disabilities to develop socially and psychologically and fun while doing so.
