You may think that the basement could never be a room that is attractive or a place to gather. But, as Sarah Barnard shows on HGTV, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Barnard shows that the basement can be a room in which people can spend time. Even if you don’t have a lot of windows in this area of the house, you can still give it an outdoor feel. Many basements have doors that lead outside just like the main door upstairs. You can make the area around that door just as inviting as your main entrance and bring a little of the outside atmosphere into your basement.
For those who love sports, you can turn it into a place to watch the big game on the weekend. You could make it a party room with a big entertainment center. You may also make into another bedroom for guests.
Of course, at first thought, lighting could be seen as a problem. However, it doesn’t have to be. Look for decorative lamps to brighten up the area. As for lighting itself, look for bright bulbs. You may have also heard of daylight bulbs, which can be found at any local hardware store. These bulbs help give natural light that often look like the room is light up from outside.
As with your living room, you want to choose the right color for your new basement. Do you want to make it a sporty and fun room, or do you want it to be a relaxing extra room in your house. Your color choice will go a long way in reaching your style choice.
