The numbers for South Carolina’s tourism were updated recently, and they are incredible! South Carolina tourism has grown into a $19 billion industry!
We all remember last October’s floods that temporarily damaged the entire state. Extensive damage was done to certain coastal areas. However, something great came out of it. South Carolina was put into the national spotlight. While people, at the time, were unsure about visiting the area because of the damage, the news also brought attention to the financial burden we were under.
However, something great came out of it. South Carolina was put into the national spotlight. While people, at the time, were unsure about visiting the area because of the damage, the news also brought attention to the financial burden we were under.
However, several people around the country were willing to donate to the area. Bottled water was sent to us from several people who saw the need for it. The Lousiana State University football team even helped by letting the South Carolina Gamecocks be the home team at their stadium so the game didn’t have to be played in flood-ravaged Columbia that week.
The news helped get the word out that we needed help. However, in doing so, people across the country realized that our state has a lot to offer for all types of tourists. South Carolina is known for its beaches in areas such as Charleston. But, we are also known for so much more.
People took notice of the Upstate, as well. Tha same weekend in which the flood took place, ESPN’s College GameDay (whose staff visit a college campus to feature a big game) visited Clemson University. Many people will remember one particular student jumping in the mud. This scene and many others like it showed that, despite the flood and damage, people in our area were still able to have fun and turn a negative into a positive.
It is now several months after the flood, and the damaged areas have been cleaned up. But, one thing is clear. People took notice of our beautiful area and realized that we are resilient people who stand in the face of adversity and are able to conquer any hurdles given to us.
The Powell Group invites you to visit our area in the Upstate and see for yourself what makes this area so fantastic.
