Several issues go into the time frame of selling your house

You’re ready to sell your house, but it’s taking forever.  What’s the problem?  Did you do anything wrong?  Probably not.

There are several issues that could factor into the time for which your house gets sold.  The Powell Group would like you to be aware of these factors.

First, look at your asking price.  If you haven’t talked with your agent – who knows the market better than anyone – you may have asked for too much.  Houses priced too high will not get a second look often.  Buyers may like the house, but there may be similar houses at a lower price.  Do your homework!

You should also look at the neighborhood.  A house in a good area will sell faster.  There are plenty of ways to get this information, and your agent can help you.

If you have young children, you will most likely want to buy a house in a good school district.  Anderson, Oconee and Pickens Counties have great schools that your child will be happy to attend.  Anderson County also has five different districts, so you will have a plethora of choices.  These choices will make it easier for buyers to want your house making a sale easier.

Another decision you’ll need to make is whether you want to live in a rural or urban area.  The Western Upstate has the best of both worlds.  However, only you know what you prefer.  Do you want to live closer to the city or would your rather live in a country setting?  That choice will help you decide where to look.  On the other hand, an urban house owner will not have much luck selling to a person who wants to be closer to the city.

The Powell Group encourages home sellers to understand what factors go into the the timeframe of selling a house.  Buyers should have a checklist that details what they want in their new home.  If your house doesn’t match up, you may want to look at another buyer.
