Most of us have had the experience of moving to a new house. We get excited about living in the new home and in the new neighborhood. But, have we fully prepared for the process of moving?
The Powell Group at Keller Williams of the Western Upstate of South Carolina has suggestions of what not to do when preparing to move.
First of all, pack ahead of time. If you’re using a moving company, there’s nothing worse than waiting until the last minute. If they arrive, and you aren’t finished, then two things will happen. Everyone – including the movers – will get stressed out because there is probably a deadline to get everything out. Secondly, they may charge you for the extra time that it took. So, don’t wait!
Next, make sure you pack properly. Use cardboard boxes and other packing materials that movers will probably suggest you use. You will also want to make sure that all boxes are sealed all the way around. Any loose ends will mean the possibility of the box coming apart, which means that your belonging will fall through the package and break. If you didn’t pack properly, you cannot blame the movers for your mistake.
Also, if you and your loved ones were having a dispute, settle it before the movers come. Again, if they have to wait around for extended periods of time because you’re having an argument with someone, they may charge you for the extra time. They want to make the process is efficient as possible and move on to their next customer. Any delays could cost you.
Lastly, although you may want to save some trouble for the movers, don’t put a lot of items in your car. That’s what the movers are there for. They will be able to properly move every item you need. If you do it yourself, you run the risk of damaging your property. Trust the movers!
The Powell Group encourages you to communicate with your moving company to let them know exactly what you want and understand what they need from you. Our team members will be able to refer you to the proper experts to help your journey go as safe as possible.
