Thanksgiving is this Thursday and that means Christmas is right around the corner. Are you and your house ready for all of your guests? The Powell Group at Keller Williams of the Western Upstate of South Carolina has several tips for you to get prepared for your big group.
Let’s start with your home’s entrance. You may not think the Welcome mat is a big deal. But, everyone who comes in will most likely wipe their feet on it. So, clean the mat before they arrive to get rid of any existing germs. Remind your guests to wipe their feet to limit the amount of dirt and germs they’ll track in the house. You may also ask them to leave their shoes in the foyer or just inside your home. It’s better to be safe than sorry. After all, you’ll still be there when they leave. Make sure they don’t leave their germs behind.
Next, move on to the kitchen. As we have said before, this is where the magic happens. That’s especially true for Thanksgiving. Sure, you’ll have enough space and ample time to prepare everything. But, what about the clean up? To avoid any issues, make sure you have enough garbage bags for the big day. In fact, double bag the can in case any liquids go through such as cranberry sauce or juice from the meat.
You will also want to throw away everything on your plate before you clean it. Some sinks can clog easier than others. So, to avoid the problem, make sure you clean your plate off and then throw everything in the garbage first.
Lastly, think about the inevitable spills that will happen – and they will happen. Make sure there are enough paper towels and napkins. Put them in an easily accessible spot so that anyone can use one when they need to. You should consider putting them in multiple spots such as the kitchen, dining room and living for when everyone watches the post-dinner football game. Messes happen in crowds. So, make sure people don’t have to go far to clean theirs up.
