As many people are aware, the Upstate is slated to get winter weather over the next few days. This can include, snow, ice and freezing rain. The Upstate’s Fox Carolina News Station has some tips that will help local citizens during this time to help everyone stay safe.
“According to Corley’s owner, Chris Corley, ‘you should know where your breaker is, know where to turn your water off, make sure you know how to work your thermostat, and don’t turn your heater down if you leave for vacation.'”
These are basic knowledge essentials for any homeowner. Knowing the location of all of these items is essential in case problems arise. However, it is also essential for when winter weather comes. Extreme winter weather such as ice and freezing rain can potentially freeze pipes and other important parts of the home. Knowing this can help prevent any damage within your dwelling.
Space heaters can also cause problems. Placement of these devices is vital. They need plenty of room around them in order to give off heat and ventilate the device. Placing them in close quarters or near or wall is dangerous because it could cause a fire. “According to the National Fire Prevention Association, more than one-third of fires in the winter are caused by space heaters,” according to the article.
