Great ideas to keep your baby safe

Many of you have babies in your home.  Of course, you want to keep them out of harm’s way.  The Powell Group at Keller Williams of the Western Upstate of South Carolina has several suggestions that will help keep your little one safe.

Make sure your baby won't be able to reach unsecured items in your home

First of all, keep everything locked.  Obviously, you should keep your doors locked.  But, have you thought about your cabinets?  Some of your kitchen cabinets may be in reach of your baby.  Make sure they can’t open it.  You can use a simple latch to secure it.  However, you will also want to move all of your kitchen cleaners and other chemicals to higher shelves in case the latches fail.

Speaking of cleaning products, make sure you keep everything clean.  Once your baby starts crawling and walking, you will want to clean everything on a regular basis.  But, don’t just clean your floors and carpets.  Clean everything that your baby will be able to reach.  As your baby gets older, they will get to the stage where they want to put things in their mouths.  Make sure they won’t pick up germs.

Also be sure to pick up anything loose.  Keep wires out of reach.  If they can pull on them, they will become fascinated with doing so, which could result in an unwanted result.  Play it safe and secure all of your wires.

Next, check your paint.  Other than the obvious paint peeling and chipping, make sure your paint doesn’t have volatile organic compounds.  You may not think it’s serious, but these compounds have been known to cause respiratory problems, headaches, and even organ damage.  Check with your pediatrician and local home store for details.  Choose more environmentally-friendly paints to keep everyone safe.

Lastly, check for recalls on your baby furniture and any other device you will use.  You can sign up for emails or social media notifications with any consumer product organization in order to get the most up-to-date information.

The Powell Group congratulates you on your new bundle of joy and encourages you to use these tips to keep your baby safe around your home.  Our team members can point you to the resources you need to continue to keep them out of harm’s way.
