Clemson’s golf team wins ACC Championship

Local fans know that Clemson University has had a stellar year in athletics.  Their football team made it to the Championship Game and their basketball team did well too.

But, did you know that their golf team is doing just as spectacularly?  The Clemson golf team just won the ACC Men’s Golf Championship in New London, NC.

According to clemsontigers.com, “Overall, it was Clemson’s 10th ACC Tournament Championship, the ninth under 33-year head coach Penley, but the first since 2004. ‘This was a long time coming,’ said Head Golf Coach Larry Penley, who won the 68th tournament of his career, second in ACC history to Wake Forest legend Jesse Haddock, who won 83.”

What makes the win even better is that all five players “finished in the final 16,” according to the site.  Highlights included Senior Miller Capps’ three birdies and Austin Langdale’s 10-foot birdie on the 18th hole.
