Celebrate National Cocoa Day and learn about the health benefits

Cocoa is a favorite of many people during the winter months.  While today is National Cocoa Day, the favorite drink doesn’t have to be consumed in the winter months alone.

There are several reasons to create your own cup of cocoa year-round.  Drinking cocoa with a high amount of the cacao bean (where the beverage comes from) will help you reap many health benefits.

For example, have you heard of flavanols?  They are the antioxidants that help keep your heart in good shape.  What you may not realize is that natural cocoa has a high amount of flavanols.

The favorite drink also has a good amount of fiber.  In fact, using natural cocoa powder has the same effect as a bowl of oatmeal.  We all know that fiber is important to our diets.  As long as the cocoa is natural, you can drink up and not worry about the extra ingredients that most cocoas have.

Lastly, it will also help you sleep.  In fact, natural cocoa has less caffeine than your average cup of black tea, which will help you sleep better.  So, get some rest with a piping-hot cup of cocoa.
