Today, Monday, April 18, our area had air quality alerts. According to AIRNow, air quality alerts mean ozone levels are high in some areas. This can happen when the temperature gets warm and the air is dry. When you combine that with pollen in the air and very little moisture, people with asthma and other issues may need to take precaution.
If you do have issues on days like this, there are several things you can do according to the National Weather Service.
- Stay informed by listening or watching your local news for weather updates
- Stay inside – particularly if your breathing problems are severe
- Limit your time outside
- Minimize pollution by not using your car or other vehicles that use gas
- Do not burn anything such as leaves or brush – especially since the fire could spread when the air is dry
